Cursusdoelen
After successful completion of this micro-module, the student will be able to,
  1. Distinguish multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary research and assess whether an MD, ID or TD approach is beneficial or optimal in a given research context.
  2. Analyze and communicate one’s own disciplinary perspective on a research topic (in terms of problem sets, values, basic concepts, problem-solving approaches and methods).
  3. Identify common potential ID and TD research challenges when planning research.
  4. Identify common methodological approaches and integrative strategies in ID and TD research, and assess them in light of specific research goals.
  5. Identify and include the interests, values and constraints of stakeholders for preparing a research strategy.
Inhoud
Modern problems cross disciplinary boundaries and involve the interests of many different stakeholders outside the university environment. Think for instance of climate change: no one discipline can resolve problems resulting from climate change itself generally, and many different populations and interests often have a stake in problem solutions. Resolving such issues effectively requires working across disciplinary boundaries (interdisciplinary research) and/or working with non-academic participants (or transdisciplinary research).  This micromodule will train the abilities to engage effectively   in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. Our goals are to understand what ID and TD research requires, recognize when it is beneficial, and the abilities and knowledge you need to have to engage in it effectively. In doing so we will aim to facilitate and develop the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary dimensions of your own research projects.
