Aims
After successful completion of this module component, the student is able to:
  1. select appropriate models and methods (from those provided in the Stochastic Models component) that are relevant to given practical problems that are too large to solve by hand;
  2. analyze these problems by implementing the selected models and methods in computer code to draw conclusions about the behavior of the system;
  3. communicate and collaborate with other students;
  4. select appropriate modelling tools (from the set of tools provided in this module) for a large real-life problem, and use them to model and solve the problem;
  5. interpret the outcomes of the before mentioned tools and formulate practical recommendations for system improvement;
  6. inform and convince the problem owner by means of a report and presentation.
Content
In the module component Project, which builds on the Stochastic Models component, students learn to select appropriate models and methods model and solve large real-life problems that cannot be solved by hand. Mathematical modelling as well as implementation in a computer are the main ingredients. Also they learn to interpret the results, formulate practical recommendations, and inform and convince the problem owner based on their findings.
