Aims
At the end of the module students can:

Pathophysiology
  • To describe the normal architecture and function of the primary tissue types and to explain the relationship between anatomy and function;
  • To associate different forms of cell damage with their origin and to discuss how this is followed by inflammation and wound healing. In addition, to deduce its effects on tissue, organ and body function and vice versa;
  • To apply the mechanisms of cell damage, inflammation and wound healing in cases with regard to oncology and cardiovascular disease;
  • To predict changes in cardiovascular function using a mathematical model (‘Windkessel model’).
Signal analysis
  • Solve linear differential equations;
  • Analyse signals in time and frequency domain.
Project
Apply, integrate and deepen previously obtained knowledge (in modules 1 and 2). Students will investigate pathophysiological processes, study the principles and mechanisms of technologies in the current medical sciences. During this project, the foundation of multiple academic competences is laid (to search and review scientific literature, implementation of reading strategies, to collaborate in a group, presentation of scientific findings). Students apply a working method specifically adjusted to a professional in Technical Medicine.
Content
In the first TG module the normal state of the human body was explained. In this second module the basis needed for understanding of the abnormal functioning is offered. Besides introduction to the pathophysiological core concepts, the module focuses on a mathematical model and mathematics and contains an extensive project that helps students to integrate and apply what is learnt in the first two TG modules (module 1 TG and this one).
