  2. The student can apply the conceptual modeling approach for scientific problem solving.
  3. The student can analyze published scientific work from a conceptual modeling perspective.
  4. The student can identify opportunities for conceptual modeling in a given societal challenge.
Inhoud
Many of our major societal challenges need an interdisciplinary contribution from science and engineering. But professionals from different disciplines can think very differently, approach different aspects of the challenge and come up with different solutions that – in most cases – only solve part of the problems that obstruct meeting the societal challenge. So how to connect existing knowledge from these disciplines, or even identify new knowledge to be generated in order to solve problems associated with the societal challenge? Conceptual modelling is an essential academic skill in many fields of scientific research and design and can serve as a shared practice for interdisciplinary collaboration. This micro-module offers a method to systematically construct or reconstruct conceptual models in scientific research and design. You will acquire and practice a common language, indispensable for the interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration both on the analysis of problems and on envisioned transdisciplinary solutions associated with real-life challenges, and firmly rooted in today's philosophy of science in practice.
