Aims
After completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Recognise a social science phenomenon.
  2. Formulate a research question which is relevant in the context of a particular societal challenge.
  3. Critically reflect on the context of a societal challenge and identify social science perspectives relevant for this context.
  4. Identify relevant social science research methods, their advantages and disadvantages, to answer a societal challenge.
  5. Present and explain a societal challenge and choices to investigate it, in a manner that suits a target audience. 
Content

This micro-module proposes a guided development of investigating a problem from a social science perspective within the context of the ICR&TIST minor. The course is meant to be introductory – you will learn the basic skills of doing research in the social sciences. The course will have a low study load (1ECTS), takes place in person, and will be fully taught in English. This micromodule consists of three components: (1) tutorials, (2) applied exercises, and (3) designing a research proposal.
