After following this course, students can:
  • Independently study a specific topic in robotics in depth
  • Choose an appropriate research methodology to investigate a given research question
  • Plan and carry out theoretical, empirical, experimental, or applied research
  • Find, analyse, and appropriately refer to literature relevant to the research question
  • Put their own research in a wider context
  • Present the results of the research in the form of a scientific report or paper
To provide the opportunity to explore specific topics in-depth, which are not available as a regular course.
The assignment must be concluded by a written report. The topic must be selected or accepted by a scientific staff member of the MSc-Robotics degree programme, and also tutored by this scientific staff member.
This course is not scheduled in the timetable of the programme, since it is to be adapted to the student’s needs. 

Once a student has found a scientific staff member for this course, they should together draw up an agreement in advance about:
  • the topic to be studied
  • the course materials (e.g. papers, books)
  • the learning activities (e.g. self study, research methods, approach of the work)
  • the time schedule for the activities, including regular meetings to discuss progress of the work
