Upon completion of this course students are able to:
  1. translate scientific information into clear language for a wide audience 
  2. apply a solid structure to their own text
  3. play with style and genre
  4. write an item for a news outlet
  5. write a column or opinion piece 
Inhoud
During this course, you will become acquainted with popular science writing. You will learn to apply the most important rules of thumb for pleasantly readable text in various writing assignments. By analyzing all kinds of examples, you will learn how structure, style, and storyline can make a text powerful. You will also experiment with different genres and get a quick introduction to science journalism.

During and after each meeting you put theory into practice with many short writing assignments. You will look for inspiring or disappointing examples of science writing and analyze them. Your main assignment will be to write a long background story on a scientific subject for a broad audience.
