Content
The  Autumn  Challenge  Programme  is  a  virtual,  extracurricular  and  short-term  challenge-
based learning (CBL) programme organised and offered by the University of Twente (UT) in
collaboration with Tec de Monterrey (Mexico), and powered by the ECIU University.
Developed under the UN SDG: Sustainable Communities and Healthy Living, the programme
is focused on skilling and equipping the learners to become actors and leaders of change in
the  context  of  the  overarching  thematic  challenge  of  making  smart  communities  and  cities
resilient and happy.

The Autumn Challenge programme consist of four interconnected components:
Virtual Teams
The  Virtual  Teams  are  the  main  component  of  the  programme.  Participants  work  on  a
challenge together in a multicultural, interdisciplinary team of 4-6 participants. Virtual Teams
are led by participants themselves under the guidance of a team coach (trained student
assistant or academic staff). Virtual Teams are expected to regularly meet with their coach as
well with a challenge provider (min. 1 hour a week), engage in teamwork as well as complete
individual research and study assignments to tackle a challenge.
Workload: 3 ECTS (3*28 = 84 hours)

Thematic Lectures
To equip participants with necessary background information to work on a challenge, various
topics related to sustainable and healthy communities will be covered during thematic micro-
lectures.
Workload: min. 0,5 ECTs (0,5*28 = 14 hours)

Skills Labs
To (further) develop the 21st century skills that are required for not only solving a challenge
but to succeed in today's world, a number of workshops are organised. In total, the Autumn
Challenge  programme  offers  four  mandatory  Skills  Labs  and  four  elective  Skills  Labs  from
which a participant is expected to participate in a minimum of 1.
Workload: min. 0,5 ECTs (0,5*28 = 14 hours)

Cultural Activities (optional)
Cultural  activities  provide  participants  with  an  opportunity  to  bond  with  other  programme
participants, and to learn and understand other cultures. Participation in Cultural Activities is
non-compulsory, however, highly recommended.

The Autumn Challenge workload is 4 ECTS but we offer the opportunity to increase your workload to max. 5 ECTS by following additional educational activities.
