Cursusdoelen
  • Understand and explain the basic functionality of radios, analog filters, PLLs, analog-to-digital converters, efficient sample-rate converters and adaptive filters.
  • Discuss these circuits in terms of fundamental properties like power, speed, noise, sample frequency, quantization error, SNR and frequency transfer.
  • Use this understanding to explore the design space in a signal processing system, make trade-offs between analog and digital and partition the system accordingly.
  • Use the insights of this process in the design of the signal processing blocks in a larger system.
Inhoud
Embedded Signal Processing focuses on analog and digital signal processing. It deals with both EE signal processing skills, as well as system design aspects in the trade-off between analog and digital. Topics in Analog Signal Processing are: Implementation and system design trade-offs: Analog-to-digital converters (Nyquist & Sigma-Delta at block level), Analog filters, Frequency synthesis (PLL at block level, system loops, and application), Analog vs. digital processing (impedance scaling, dissipation vs. noise, digital scaling), Implementation at circuit level. Topics in Digital Signal Processing are: efficient implementation of sample-rate converters, quantization effects in practical DSP design, adaptive filters and their applications. The knowledge of analog and digital ESP is combined in the form of a small course project.

Voorkennis
It is advised to have successfully completed at least the electronics part in M3, the programming part in M5, and the mathematics / signal processing parts in M6 and M8.
