Aims
  • Describe energy storage requirements for different developments in the energy transition.
  • Recognize the differences in storage performance for electric mobility and stationary storage.
  • Understand the most important aspects for the dominant energy storage technologies (hydrogen, batteries, flow batteries, supercapacitors, flywheel and thermal).
  • Apply knowledge on energy storage technologies to substantiate the optimal technology for a specific requirement, taking also into account  location (local, regional or national) and time (hours, days or seasonal).
Content
  • Introduction into energy storage
  • Hydrogen storage (basics, state-of-the-art and beyond)
  • Lithium-ion batteries (basics, state-of-the-art and beyond)
  • Flow batteries (basics, state-of-the-art)
  • Supercapacitors (basics, state-of-the-art)
