After this study unit the students are able to:
- understand the difference between qualitative and quantitative research.
- employ qualitative research methods to understand phenomena of interest.
- understand the difference between behavioral and design research.
- independently conduct and analyze experiments by analysis of variance (ANOVA)
- interpret ANOVA results
- understand how to conduct a survey and analyze the obtained data by regression analysis.
- interpret regression results

The students are introduced into research methods of qualitative and quantitative research and their differences. In doing so, they learn about different techniques from qualitative research such as coding and quantitative research such as analysis of variance including ways of data collection typically used for these techniques. For example, analysis of variance is particularly useful to analyze the outcomes of experiments to assess designed prototypes. To practice the presented techniques, students apply appropriate software programs such as SPSS to solve assignments accompanying these techniques.
Manual enrollment via Osiris is only for Creative Technology students. If you want to enroll, please contact Tamara Oukes (t.oukes@utwente.nl).
