Aims
The student can explain and apply the main AI-techniques concerning search, logic, Bayesian networks and machine learning.
The student can work with data structures and implement algorithms in an object oriented programming language
Content
Artificial Intelligence Theory  gives an introduction in to the basic formalisms and methods of AI. The approach taken is based on the concept of a rational agent which as to act (not only to think) in an (partially observable) environment. The following AI formalisms are covered: search, search in the context of games, reasoning, reasoning under uncertainty, and how an agent can learn from data.  Artificial Intelligence Practice covers programming skills for a wide range of topics related to AI, algorithms, and data structures. Topics of the course include basic search strategies, trees, graphs, references and pointers, compilation, interpretation, emulation, search heuristics, an introduction to complexity, and recursion.

Assumed previous knowledge
We expect students (1) to be able to apply the basic rules of probability and methods of statistics; (2) to be able to program applications by writing and combining algorithms; No prior knowledge on Artificial Intelligence is expected.
