Students are able to do a systematic literature review to retrieve the scientific knowledge needed to produce and communicate new ideas, services, and/or products based on a personal fascination in the Smart Technology context.

The literature research project is about the students’ (re)search into their own fascination within the context of smart technology or new media. Inspiration can arise from projects in year 1, hobbies or things one thinks that aren’t possible but that given the right knowledge may be possible after all. The students write a research question based on their fascination. This contains the question to be explored and answered. Formulating a research question is a very important step in a literature project; it provides direction and focus in the subsequent search for literature. In a literature study one investigates what other scientists have found and achieved regarding the chosen topic. A literature study is useful to know what has been done and investigated up to the present day regarding one’s question so that the wheel doesn’t have to be reinvented. Scientific progress throughout the ages could not have been possible in this fast rate if scientists didn’t share (publish) their findings and if a scientist starting new research didn’t start with literature research to determine the state-of-the-art knowledge on this topic. Finally, the students must report their findings both in a written report and via a poster presentation.
Manual enrollment via Osiris is only for Creative Technology students. Students from other bachelor programmes can enroll if they are allowed to follow the module as a minor/exchange programme. Note that the Smart Tech module and its courses are not open for students from all study directions! Check the entry rules at the minor office for the most recent entry requirements. If you want to enroll, please contact K. Zalewska (k.zalewska-kurek@utwente.nl).
