Aims
After passing this course, students:
  1. can generate and interpret descriptive statistics, both numerically and graphically
  2. know elementary probability theory and can apply this theory to model problems and compute (conditional) probabilities as well as expectations and variance of random variables
  3. recognize which probability distribution (Bernoulli, binomial, uniform, normal, exponential) to apply in practical situations
  4. are able to give estimates and confidence intervals for unknown population means or population proportions, and
  5. can apply hypothesis testing for one-sample-problems under normal distributions.
Content
The main study content consists of:
  1. Statistical experiments, sample spaces and probability,
  2. combinatorial probability,
  3. conditional probability and independence,
  4. discrete random variables,
  5. continuous random variables,
  6. waiting times,
  7. descriptive statistics,
  8. estimation,
  9. confidence intervals,
  10. hypothesis tests,
  11. two sample problems,
  12. Chi-square tests, and lastly
  13. choice of model and non-parametric methods.

Manual enrollment via Osiris is only for Creative Technology students. If you want to enroll, please contact K. Zalewska (k.zalewska-kurek@utwente.nl).
