Aims
After passing "Art && Impact" students are able to:
  1. develop an artistic statement through research and reflection
  2. conceptualize an art installation on the basis of iterative design principles
  3. make use of techniques from new media, gaming, and sensor systems to design for interactivity
  4. plan and devise roles and subtasks that guide their creative process
  5. present the project concept, design, and realization
  6. tell the story behind the (creation of) their installation
After passing "Design for Experience" students are able to:
  1. understand and explain what it means to design for experience and how experiences can contribute to the design of technology
  2. apply need-finding design methods to analyse the experiences that people have with technology -- namely, what people do, think and feel as a result of using technology
  3. apply emotional design techniques to create technology that evokes specific emotions and adds emotional value to people's experiences with technology, and
  4. design and interpret the results of an experience evaluation that collects information about how well a design is able to elicit an intended emotional response
Content
The course Art && Impact focuses on realizing an interactive installation.

The primary objective is to develop an installation that has an emotional impact on the spectator / participant by way of making an artistic statement -- Practical application or utility is not of primary concern unless it is part of the statement. Further, the students tell the story, both visually and textually, behind the (creation) of their installation and place it in its context, both for the user interaction, and also for the artistic tradition. To do so, students will use the skills they learned in this and previous modules. In particular creative thinking, design, collaboration and programming skills are important, as well as the design context and user interaction.

Manual enrollment for this module via Osiris is only for Creative Technology students. If you want to take this module as a minor, register for the minor during the minor registration period. If you do not wish to take this module as a minor and are not a Create student, please contact K. Zalewska (k.zalewska-kurek@utwente.nl).
