Aims
The objective of the module Materials Science and Technology is to get the student acquainted with the relation between basic properties of materials and their functional applications. This includes obtaining knowledge of the direct connection between material properties, structure/composition and material synthesis. At the end of the course, the student should be able to
a) describe the functional properties of materials used in a specific device and
b) connect these to basic material properties (structural, underlying physics/chemistry and composition),
c) in relation to the ability to synthesize these materials.
Module consists of the study units
Course name Code
1. Chem. & Technol. of Inorganic Materials 202000749
2. Chem. & Technol. of Organic Materials 202000750
3. Advanced Materials Science & Project 202000751
Module description
The module consists of a general part in which the relation between the functional properties of materials and the microstructure is discussed (Advanced Materials). The relation between the microstructure and specific synthesis techniques is studied in the parts Chemistry and Technology of Inorganic Materials, respectively Chemistry and Technology of Organic Materials.
Assumed previous knowledge
• CSE MOD01: study unit Fundamentals of Chemistry (8.5 EC) plus CSE MOD03: study unit Materials (9.5 EC).
• Students with a different prior education should have passed similar courses to be admissible.
