Module 6 is a thematic module around “Transport Phenomema”. In this module the fundamentals (theory) of transport of momentum, mass and energy are introduced and applied to understand and describe phenomena in situations which are encountered in daily life and in industrial (engineering) practice. Next to this, (numerical) modeling skills are developed and applied to above mentioned situations derived from physical technology. Supporting theory on numerical modeling is provided. Altogether, transport phenomena theory and numerical modeling, they should enable students to analyze and understand the basics of transport phenomena and develop the competence to model and/or design novel systems, based on sound fundamentals.
With experiments (in the form of a practical part and as part of the project) the link between theory and practice is further enforced (as direct feedback). In the project, skills of problem analysis, systematic approach, recognizing the appropriate transport phenomena, formulating and solving (modeling) the correct balances and reporting are further integrated and developed.
