During this module students explore processes in detail, both on a molecular level, where kinetics and catalysis are important topics, and on a process level, where the aim is to create an overview of the most important stepping stones in the process of realising a desired product from a variety of optional raw materials, such as petroleum, natural gas and biomass.
In this module you will use specific knowledge acquired in previous modules, especially concerning thermodynamics (modules 2 and 4) and separation methods (module 2). Furthermore, industrial processes will be evaluated on their sustainability using a SELCA (social-ecological life cycle analysis). In preparation of making the SELCA a number of lectures will be taught. During these lectures Dr. Laura Franco Garcia and Dr. ir. Boelo Schuur (and others) will discuss the social aspects and the ecological impact assessment. The SELCA methodology will be introduced by studying a Jeans-to-jeans recycling case.
In vector calculus specific attention will be paid to the integral calculus of vector fields. In this sense it builds on Math D1, emphasizing double and triple integrals for multivariable functions.
