Aims
This module revolves around understanding and performing reactions with molecules and polymers. Given the structure of atoms and molecules, the reactivity of a particular molecule can be predicted. To learn how, various new skills are required. Fundamentals of chemistry is based on recognizing relevant aspects and principles, translating gross molecular formulas into structures and reactivity, using this information to come to a critical assessment, and predicting the reaction process with the help of general mechanisms. Group project-based work is introduced to find and assess scientific literature, translate a research question into an experimental plan (including division of tasks and phasing) and making a final presentation in the form of a report and demonstration.
