After this course the students
- have gained insight in the underlying basic and new optical principles, specifically in the context of the Fourier theorem and Liouville phase space arguments,
- have learned to apply the theorems hands-on,
- have learned something about microscopy and imaging,
- have learned to explain these principles and specific cases to fellow students,
- have experienced, within a one-day road trip, a true research and development environment in other institutes or in companies
- have learned to search and analyze scientific journal articles
- have trained giving scientific / tutorial presentations
- have learned how to participate with and contribute to scientific discussions,
- learned to ask critical question for improved understanding
- have improved their presentation skills.

The result of the exam will be determined by the following assessment plan;
Written exam (60%)
Homework with feedback (20%)
Presentation including annotations and feedback, also through fellow (20%)
