Aims
After completing this course, the student can:

a. apply the relation between position, velocity and acceleration to solve two-dimensional motion problems.
b. apply basic linear and rotational mechanics such as static equilibrium, Newton’s laws, conservation of momentum, angular momentum and energy
Content
The engineering portion of the module encompasses classical dynamics and statics. The concept of Free Body Diagrams will be introduced in order to analyse both static and dynamical systems. Dynamics is treated starting from velocity and acceleration, moving towards Newton’s laws in both the translational and rotational domains. Mechanical second order systems (mass, spring, damper) are included.
Apart from drills from the book there will be so called ’week problems’ – these problems serve as a deepening in the topics of Mechanics; the results are discussed in small groups during meetings at the end of every week. The engineering content is also partly implemented in the project.
