  • International experience / application: To enrich the students' bachelor profile with an international experience and prepare them for dealing with cultural differences.
  • Knowledge: To acquire a detailed knowledge of and insight into the issues and grand challenges of sustainability, sustainable technologies, responsible innovation, business development and social equity in the international context and in particular in relation to developing and transition countries;
  • Analytical and evaluation skills: To identify, analyse and evaluate a range of ethical, professional, managerial, economic, legal, social and cultural challenges of - and opportunities for - responsible innovation in practice at different levels within different organisations, i.e. 1) companies; 2) non-profit organisations; and 3) government and public sector organisations.
  • Problem solving and synthesis skills: To develop solutions to complex issues related to the transition to a sustainable future using the appropriate theories and approaches, and to address them – both individually as well as from the basis of team work – from a multidisciplinary and multicultural perspective.
  • Comprehension: To identify and discuss dilemmas in creating and implementing the transition to a sustainable future related to responsible innovation within business and the public sector.
  • Virtual project specific: To get hands on experience of working in a multidisciplinary team in collaboration with people from other countries. Students are trained to deal with cultural differences and develop a project by using research methods associated to a real-life case study
This course has three distinct elements:
  1. Thematic sessions offering multi-disciplinary perspectives, theories, strategies and approaches for solving TS&D Grand Challenges of NGOs, private firms and public organisations;
  2. Self-guided cooperative learning by teams of students from different disciplinary backgrounds under the guidance of academic staff;
  3. An extended field study project.

Throughout the module, students are expected to give plenary presentations about their work - both individually and in teams.

As for the international project, students will be organised into multidisciplinary teams in which they will develop a project jointly with partners located abroad by using various means of ICT. Since the project will be a real life case, built on the needs of an international partner organisation, students need to learn about crossing national borders to deal with cultural differences, adjusting their own working styles to a different context.
