Inhoud
As a result of finalizing the Bachelor Thesis course you are expected to deliver:
  • Three or more submissions reporting your paper-in-progress (see time-table on the Canvas)
  • An individual final report (thesis), comparable with a scientific article (prepared for a possible contribution to a conference, book, and/or journal manuscript); fixed deadlines per quartile
  • Presentation of your results of the course at the Students Conference.

Types for the assignments for the BSc thesis: At the University Twente (“Internal assignment”);In cooperation with a company (“external assignment”);In cooperation with a foreign university (“International assignments”).

Finding a research project
Business Administration research groups place Calls for (Bachelor Thesis) Proposals within specific topics. These topics are subject to annual changes, depending on the status of running research projects within the groups. Minor deviation from the Call for Proposals is subject to discussion with advisors. Research projects need to be arranged in the 3rd quartile and  research proposals are written and need to be approved in the 3rd quartile (also in case of a bachelor thesis project in Q1). Research proposals are a pre-requisite for starting the BSc thesis.

Supervision
You will receive guidance from at least two UT-BMS faculty members whose responsibility is to give you academic advice in writing a good Thesis paper. The 1st supervisor is an expert in the field from the Call for Proposals. The 2nd supervisor is invited as a “reading committee member” to monitor and help, if needed, in the progress of the thesis. In case of a thesis project in an external organisation or in cooperation with a foreign university a 1st supervisor of the Business Administration departments of the BMS faculty of the University of Twente is required. Students who want to arrange such BSc thesis projects need to start with an agreement with a 1st supervisor before arranging agreements with external parties. When working on a thesis project in an external organization, it is essential that you have a contact at the organization, who acts as an external supervisor. This external supervisor must have sufficient knowledge and experience to supervise the BSc student in the thesis project. Although the supervisor is involved in the thesis project’s successful execution, the UT supervisors, specifically examiners, are responsible for grading your Bachelor Thesis, in accordance to the BSc IBA programme learning goals and related criteria.

Assessment
Students not showing enough progress halfway the project (deadline specified in Canvas) fail the course and need to find a new bachelor thesis research project.
The final thesis paper will only be accepted for the Students’ Conference with a “green light”. In case no “green light” is obtained according to the deadline for Q4 as specified in CANVAS the BSc thesis project need to be finalized in Q1 of the next academic year. Supervisors will use an assessment matrix to evaluate the final version of the thesis.
This is an individual assessment.
