On completing the Innovation sub-module, the students will be able to:recognise and identify different types of innovations and different types of innovation activities

  • explain key theories in innovation and illustrate and critique those key theories by using empirical examples
  • indicate boundaries and conditions of applicability of theories in innovation
  • integrate key theories and collect relevant additional theories to design a unique solution to solve empirical problems related to innovation
  • evaluate the quality of alternative designs and defend the selection of a particular design
  • discuss innovation in an international context

On completing the Entrepreneurship sub-module, the students will be able to:

  • recognise and identify different types of innovations and different types of entrepreneurial activities

  • Describe the most popular statistical learning methods
  • Interpret correctly the output of a decision tree
  • Apply logistic regression, and know in what type of situations logistic regression can be applied
  • Interpret and explain R code related to loading data files, preprocessing texts, and running and evaluating models in a big data framework.

On completing the Innovation Tournament / Project management sub-modules, the students will be able to:
  • learn how to design and run innovation tournaments: a science-based model for the generation, selection and development of innovation opportunities.
  • apply this model in practice – starting with idea creation and finishing with fundraising – students will compete with each other to develop their innovation opportunity.
  • define and analyse their research project in terms of the five stages of project management: environment scanning, project definition, project planning, project execution and project control
  • evaluate and reflect on whether the project has been executed according to the initial planning
  • evaluate and reflect on whether the project team and external stakeholders have operated in a way that enabled them to (efficiently) execute the project

Inhoud
Innovation and Entrepreneurship are at the root of sustained competitive advantage for established as well as newly created companies (Tidd & Bessant, 2009). To manage innovation and entrepreneurship, a wide range of work on the topic has emerged in various disciplines. This diversity poses integration challenges to both instructors and students. The module innovation management and entrepreneurship seeks to integrate this wide body of work into a single coherent framework that helps to understand and manage innovation and entrepreneurship.
