Inhoud

Imagine yourself to be a business consultant: various firms come for advise on how to improve their business. Their managers ask questions like: how can my firm improve sales; succeed in exceeding customer needs; or ramp up production cycles? Being able to answer these questions requires theoretical knowledge about the management of personnel, knowledge of the effective and cognitive drivers of employee behaviour, legal boundaries and opportunities, and information and its technology. The module Human resources, Organisational behaviour, Law and Information management (HOLI) gives you knowledge about these four important disciplines of Business Administration.

Four HOLI disciplines:
  • Human Resource Management & Organisational Behaviour (HRM & OB) deals with policies and practices for the management of employees and their abilities, motivation and opportunities to be creative, productive and customer-focused. Further, it considers how current managerial and employee behaviour can be assessed and how opportunities for improving employee and management performance can be identified.
  • Business Law (Law) deals with laws and regulations as both a constraint and facilitator to business practices and suggests that firms can re-actively and pro-actively engage with law for realising a competitive advantage.
  • Information Management (Info) involves both the adoption of IT-based innovations of business processes and the management of information as an organisational asset for achieving organisational objectives.

Academic and professional skills:
Complementary to business domain specific knowledge, high quality business consultants need Academic and Professional Skills (which we shorten here as APS), consisting of:
  • Business & Reflective Skills, which in this module focusses on describing business problems in a SMART manner, developing integrative theoretical models and report writing.
Ultimately, knowledge from these business disciplines and APS should allow you to develop a plan for starting a new business. In this module, besides attending lectures and tutorials, you will be invited to conduct a project where you have to draft plans for setting up an online labour platform. In this project, you will design an online labour platform and develop design criteria to evaluate your planned design, using concepts and theories from the HOLI disciplines
For gaining the excellence distinction (HOLI STAR), you are required to gain more in-depth understanding of the methods and techniques used for the different stages of the project.
