Content
The aim of the pre-master course Academic skills is to learn students how problems in Industrial Engineering and Management are solved. For this we use the management problem solving method (MPSM) and academic business research methods.  The course is stretched over two quartiles:
  • Quartile 1 (1 EC) covers the main principles and skills to apply academic business research
  • Quartile 2 (4 EC) aims to apply the research and problem solving methods to a complex business case. The course relies mainly on self-directed learning skills of the students.

In the first quartile, during several sessions, students work at an essay assignment which reflects the business research cycle. This way the theory is applied to a self-chosen research methodological topic. During the second quartile, students will in groups apply the acquired knowledge to a complex business case. By making assignments and through feedback sessions, students can improve their case analysis. The examination is based on a group report and company grade.
