Aims
The student:
  • Can apply probability theory on joint and conditional discrete variables, including the computation of correlation coefficient and determination of the distribution of a function of discrete variables.
  • Can determine expectations and probabilities for sums and means of independent variables, especially for normally distributed variables and can apply the central limit theorem for large samples in case of binomial and other non-normal distributions.
  • Can summarize data numerically and present data graphically (with SPSS) and can evaluate whether observed data are normally or exponentially distributed, including a test on normality;
  • Can apply estimation theory, confidence intervals, and tests on hypotheses for contextual problems given as one sample, two samples and contingency tables, including some nonparametric alternatives.
