Aims
At the end of this course, students will:

• become familiar with philosophical approaches to psychology
• know the main philosophical issues in psychological methodology, basic concepts, knowledge claims, and the nature of the mind and mental processes
• be able to critically assess debates in the philosophy of psychology

Content
The Philosophy study unit will take a closer look at various underlying fundamental issues in psychology and in our understanding of the mind more generally. Those issues cover psychological methodology, basic concepts, knowledge claims (epistemology), and even the very nature of the mind and mental processes (what philosophers call “metaphysics” or “ontology”). Questions that will be addressed include: What is the mind-body problem? Does free will exist? Why is the concept of mental disorder epistemically, socially and politically controversial?
