After completing Part A of this study unit the student is able to:
- know the purpose and application of psychological research methods and techniques in education
- understand and demonstrate how the choice of psychological research methods and techniques depends on the researcher’s questions and hypotheses
- understand and demonstrate how observations and student products can be used to investigate learning processes and learning outcomes
- prepare, conduct, and report on a structured observation to measure (online) classroom management skills
- prepare, conduct, and report on artefact coding to measure learning outcomes
After completing Part B of this study unit the student is able to:
- understand and demonstrate the role and performance of basis didactical skills (e.g., explaining, questioning, giving feedback) in instruction.
- understand and demonstrate the role and importance of (online) classroom management skills in delivering an effective instruction
- design a lesson plan in preparation of a 10-minute instruction designed according to one of the instructional theories addressed in Part B of the theoretical component of this module

This study unit is part of the module Psychology in Learning and Instruction (202000344).
Having acquired a basic understanding of what learning and instruction entails in the theory study unit, the skills lab enables you to deepen this knowledge by engaging in hands-on activities:
- You will prepare and deliver a short (online) lesson using one of the instructional theories from the theoretical component;
- You will attend (online) lessons of your peers as a student;
- You will assume the role of a researcher to investigate the teaching-learning process in these (online) lessons.
Similar to the theoretical component, the skills lab consists of two parts. Part A focuses on Research skills and Part B addresses Teaching skills.
