 Aims
 body { font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial } table { font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial } At the end of the module, students will be able to: recognize and distinguish between the various activities in the context of empirical research, including formulating a research question, selecting a research design, differentiating between data collection methods and some first steps in data analysis ; formulate a clear descriptive or explanatory research question, including units and (a) variable(s); Identify and comprehend the implications of a causal statement (correlation, time order and the absence of a third variable); identify different types of research designs for answering explanatory (causal) questions, including correlational, quasi-experimental and experimental research designs and to use criteria like internal and external validity to assess these designs. Identify different types of data collection methods or measurement instruments calculate some descriptive statistics (incl. measures of central tendency and variability) and create simple charts and tables using the statistical program R. understand the general idea of sampling and inferential statistics.
