After passing the course, the student can:
- Understanding interdisciplinary theories (design theory and the ethics of technology) that influence human-product interactions
- Designing products with an intended influence on the interaction between humans and products
- Reflecting on your own role as a designer of human-product relations
- Gaining insight into real life situations by means of qualitative, explorative design research
- Being able to develop an applied approach to qualitative and explorative design research

This is a part of Module 5, ID 5 Human Product Relations of the Bachelor Industrial Design Engineering. See here for the complete description of this module.
Content:
The aim of the HPR project is to acquire insight into the interaction between humans and products by viewing it through the lenses of use, philosophy, and design. Particular attention is paid to methods of qualitative, explorative research and to a reflection of the power and role of the designer in designing such interaction.
In this course, students explore and discuss relationships between people and products through the perspective of different use contexts, interaction qualities, and possibilities for influencing user experience and behaviour. In doing so, we focus on users not only as individuals, but also as human beings in a social and societal context. The course integrates lectures, feedback sessions, workshops, and self-study hours. The project brief changes every year around designing for public space. While addressing this brief, students deal with different stakeholders and user groups who often have conflicting needs and desires in a specific use situation. Through the lectures and the feedback sessions, students learn to transform these conflicts into valuable design opportunities for influencing human experience and behaviour.
