 Aims
body { font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial } table { font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial } At the end of Dynamics 2, a student is able to perform a dynamic analysis on discrete or continuous systems by: Performing a kinematic analysis Deriving the equation of motion Determining the natural frequencies and natural modes Determining the free and forced vibration response
 Content
body { font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial } table { font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial } This is a part of module 8, ME 8 Mechatronic Design of the Bachelor Mechanical Engineering.. See here for the compete description of the module. The course Dynamics 2 is about mechanical systems that are able to vibrate. Starting with a system’s kinematics, the number of degrees of freedom and number of constraints is established. The system’s equation of motion is derived using both a Newton-Euler approach and a Lagrange approach. For the purpose of structural vibrations, the concepts of natural frequencies and natural modes are explained and the concept of modal analysis is introduced. The free and forced vibration response of linearized systems is discussed by applying the appropriate mathematical tools for solving ODEs and PDEs. Non-ME students can take this course if they meet the entry requirements.
Assumed previous knowledge
It is recommended that the student is familiar with an introductory course in Engineering Dynamics as well as mathematics related to solving ODEs and matrix-vector algebra.
