The module consists of a project assignment and some project supporting module parts. The module parts will be finished off in 10 weeks, the project itself takes 12 weeks. During the project a not-yet-existing mechanical tool will be designed. The designed tool will be made in the workshop as a prototype. The emphasis of the project is on the design process where technical drawing the tool is to communicate and manufacturing systems is used to build the prototype. To calculate some forces in the designed tool statics is used.
During the project Design of a Mechanical Tool the complete design process is passed through. This means the formulate the specifications, generate concepts, concept choice, elaboration of the chosen concepts into assembly and detailed drawings, work preparation, manufacturing the parts, assembly, testing the prototype, reflection and writing a report. The project will be executed by project teams of 8 students each and guided by a tutor.
