This is a part of Semester 4 of the Bachelor Mechanical Engineering (UT-VU) See here for the compete description of this semester.

Content
SMART INDUSTRY is the sixth course in the DESIGN & MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING learning line.
The smart industry course gives students insight in the state-of-the-art of manufacturing, namely the core technologies of Smart Industry, also known as Industry 4.0. Smart Industry includes new modular approaches, as well as (next generation) robotics, new ways of manufacturing (for example 3D printing) and ubiquitous sensors will enable cost-effective flexible manufacturing to meet the specific demands by customers. The course will start with 2 or 3 lectures on the overall concepts, challenges, and goals with the aim of giving students an understanding of the concepts of current trends in manufacturing. These concepts include mass customization and personalization; big data, cyber physicals system, horizontal and vertical integration of processing chains and design principles in the application and implementation of Smart Industry.  Thereafter, students will be taught the core technologies that play an important role in manufacturing in depth during 6 to 8 lectures. The core technologies complement each other so they together are able to define Smart Factories. These core technologies include among others: additive manufacturing; sensors, actuators, and vision systems; robotics and automation; simulation and digital twins; virtual and augmented reality;

Please note: This course takes place in Amsterdam and is only accessible for BSc UT-VU ME students.
