Inhoud
Without proper assessment, one cannot draw valid conclusions about the performance of students, teachers or schools. In this course, we will focus on the basics of assessing and monitoring performance in all areas of education. This will range from paper-and-pencil tests for students, to quality assurance systems at school level, and performance appraisal of internships in vocational education. We will discuss the value of various forms of assessment, explore the different perspectives that school inspectorates employ, and learn more about international comparisons.
The main message of this course is that assessment is essential, but also complicated. You will be provided with background knowledge that you can use to systematically and critically evaluate assessment choices and assessment-related decisions.

Assessment:
You will apply what you have learned in several (mostly optional) formative assignments, and demonstrate your knowledge and insights in a final digital exam.
The final grade of the course is determined by, and equal to, the grade obtained for the exam.

Relationship with technology:
Technology-enhanced assessment will be discussed.
A digital system for peer feedback will be used
The final exam will be administered digitally.
