Aims

After the course, students will be able to:
1.    Describe geographic phenomena and explain the concepts related to spatial data modelling of these phenomena
2.    Explain the structure, components, and benefits of a relational spatial database
3.    Explain data retrieval concepts (attribute and spatial queries)
4.    Classify and explain spatial analysis functions in a raster and vector environment
5.    Reflect on selected applications of GIS for transportation
6.    Apply GIS concepts and methods in a practical assignment by:

a.    Structuring GIS network data and carry out network analysis
b.    Modelling transport accessibility by different modes

Part 1: (online lectures and exercises based on ITC core text book):
1.    Introduction to ArcGIS
2.    Spatial data modelling
3.    Data Management
4.    Data retrieval (queries)
5.    Visualization
6.    Spatial Analysis
7.    Network Analysis
8.    Overview lecture on GIS in Transport
9. Lecture on Spatial Statistics for Transport

Part 2: Practical (group) assignment:

10.    Structuring of a network database, network analysis
11.    Assignment on accessibility and transport scenarios

Students who have followed the LUTI course of May/June 2020 are not eligible to join this course.
