body { font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial } table { font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial } This is a part of Semester 1 of the Bachelor Mechanical Engineering (UT-VU) See here for the compete description of this semester. Statics is the first course of the SOLID MECHANICS learning line. It is concerned with the analysis of the loads acting on bodies under equilibrium conditions. During this course, students learn the foundation for mechanics, to calculate the dimensions of such structures and machines, and determine the forces that act on a design to allow dimensioning and students gain insight in technical (im)possibilities of designs. The course covers the static analysis of truss structures, machines and devices as well as the analysis of internal loads in slender members.   For the purpose of modeling and programming, students are introduced to Matlab. They learn to perform a numerical analysis on statically determinate truss structures.
