Learning goals
After completing this course successfully, students are able to:
• understand how context, goals and users’ capabilities influence usability, satisfaction and appeal of the to develop product and/or system;
• develop scenarios and personas to explore, define and evaluate future use situations;
• understand the benefits and limitations of a scenario based design method;
• use several techniques for informing (sources of inspiration) and generating scenarios;
• be introduced to a development process characterized by iterative steps between defining the problem statement, developing ideas and (intermediate) human-centred evaluations;
• understand general human capabilities for operating products and/or systems and applying this understanding through Human Factors guidelines for designing (interactive) products;
• select and apply appropriate human-centred evaluation methods.
Content
This course is an introduction to the principles of human centred design, in which the emphasis is on understand and apply a human-centred approach to the development of products, services and/or (interactive) systems. The focus will be on defining the desired future use situation instead of just the to-develop product.
