The main objective of the course Preparation MSc-thesis project is to – independently1) – produce a research or design plan for his/her MSc-thesis project, based on state-of-the-art scientific knowledge of the sub-field and acquire additional knowledge to prepare for the MSc-thesis project. The MSc-thesis project is a large2) individual research or design project in the field of Construction Management & Engineering.
- With ‘independently’ we mean: the student acts as the project leader for producing this research or design plan with guidance from his/her supervisor(s). The amount of guidance needed will be reflected in the grading of the course.
- With ‘large’ we mean one coherent project of 30 EC that requires about 21 full-time working weeks, i.e. about half a year of work.

Course content:
Based on a meeting with the thesis supervisor, the student will make a plan that contains the following information: outline of the thesis subject, knowledge to be gained (literature, software, methodology), examination mode(s) and planning.
Based on this plan the student will deliver the following products:
- Research plan
- Proof of sufficient prior knowledge based on examination mode(s)
The UT-supervisor is responsible for appointing the thesis committee. The UT-supervisor will examine the prior knowledge. The entire thesis committee has to give approval to the research plan.
