SAt the end of the course, students have to reflect on the experience or the techniques of
- the cultivation of a state of consciousness and self-kindness:
- encouragement rather than self-criticism
- relation to difficult emotions with greater moment-to-moment acceptance
- responding to feelings of failure or inadequacy with self-kindness
- the art of savouring, self-appreciation and mindful listening
- how to integrate core mindfulness and self-compassion exercises into daily life
- simple self-compassion practices to patients, students or clients
- the attitude to be able to initiate a personal development process; initiate opportunities for the development of self-awareness and self-examination of personal values and strength.
- The value of social and communication skills towards yourself and others to be able to pleasantly work together with clients & peers.
Finally, students can define a Personal Mission Statement at the end of the course.
In this course, you will discover what inspires you (and other people) and how this affects your life. Knowing what motivates and obstructs you, can help you to better fulfil your individual potential , in your daily life and in your professional role. In order to understand other people and what inspires them, it is important that you first get to know yourself better. That not only involves psychological insight and theory, but also self-examination. This course gives you support in this process.|
In this course, you will become aware of what inspires you and how you can use that knowledge to further shape your own attitudes during your studies and your future professional career. You will enhance your vision, self-knowledge, and professional identity. The insights and skills that you gain can be used to enter into an open dialogue with others and to search together for answers and solutions. This corresponds closely with the positive psychological principles of our department. The overall aim is that you develop attitudes (by experience), insights (by reflection on the techniques), and competences that you can apply in your daily life as student, your internship, and future work.
There are two main elements: a Mindfulness training of six weeks and an autobiographical writing assignment that is supervised in Peer to peer group meetings (both mandatory attendance). In the Mindfulness training we practice cultivating attention, insight and kindness. During autobiographical writing you will reflect on meaningful moments in your personal life and the way in which you can reflect on these with kind attention. You write both in the Peer to Peer group and in your own study time. You conclude the course with a presentation about your own learning process and a compassionate wish to yourself for the future.
There will be 2 tracks in this course, students can choose one of both:
Track A: experience & personal practice of mindfulness and autobiographical writing Track B: reflection on the techniques of mindfulness and autobiographical writing
Track A is recommended for students with the intention to participate in a clinical internship in the second part of the master.
