  2. to be familiar with different approaches, models and tools used to inform water policy in view of climate change
  3. to identify the appropriate tool for a specific water management problem, and
  4. to use those tools to provide results relevant for water policy makers.
Inhoud
This course is about long-term water policy and planning in the face of climate change. The course provides a methodological basis in scenario methods, adaptation pathways and optimization techniques. The topical focus is on climate change and its effects on water systems, flood risk management and planning for droughts and water scarcity.

The main topics covered in this course are:
  • Climate change and adaptation
  • Scenario methods for water management
  • Flood risk management
  • Water scarcity planning
  • Big data in water management
  • Optimization techniques

This course is assessed by means of an individual exam at the end of the quartile and group assignments.

Additional info:
This course is an adapted version of the previous course ‘Tools for water policy analysis’ (about 2/3).
Voorkennis
Recommended: ‘Hydrology’ or ‘Hydrological Modelling and Forecasting’
Desired previous knowledge: ‘Hydrology’ and ‘Hydrological Modelling and Forecasting’.
