Cursusdoelen
The project provides you opportunities to acquire evidence for the semester goals regarding expertise and integration. It invites you to develop and employ specialized knowledge and skills within a collaborative and multi-disciplinary setting. In addition to contributing to the overall semester goals, in the project you can learn to:
1. Understand the nature of complex spatio-temporal systems
  • incorporate location and time parameters in your modelling
  • explain how location and time are critical in understanding real-world problems
  • explain the role of normative practices
2.Decompose a complex spatio-temporal system and formulate critical issues
  • break down real-world problems into related subsystems or components
  • reason and converge towards the critical issues
Inhoud
This project provides an opportunity to develop and excel in leadership skills. The teams are large and heterogeneous, and their leaders are responsible for the cohesion of the group and its contributions. Throughout the project they will have to find ways to have the different subgroups and contributions attune and collaborate. The challenges are keeping together subgroups and their work, attuning, exchanging and realising creative ideas for integration.
We will therefore seek at least 3 students (see separate document on Canvas) who perform this role of team leaders as part of an elective of 3 EC on “Leadership of Multidisciplinary Groups”. They will do the same amount of (content) work as the rest of the team members, and their additional tasks as leader (estimated to be about 1 EC) will be combined with 1 EC literature study and 1 EC writing of a paper/report. Thus, the combination will account for a 3 EC elective, under the supervision of the elective teacher. S/He will get the team leaders together regularly, to exchange experiences, share ideas and questions, and help them with coaching and discussion of ideas from theory and literature. In the end, they make available useful documentation for future project team leaders in ATLAS, based on their experiences and the literature. Team leaders must apply and will be selected before the semester starts.
