Aims
At the end of this module students should be able to:
  1. Demonstrate their knowledge of the energy system, its elements and interlinkages
  2. Compare and contrast actors and policies in the energy system
  3. Assess critically the power issues arising from the global interwovenness of the energy system


 
Content

The course offers an introduction to the organization, governance and management of the energy system. It discusses the opportunities and problems related to the transition towards a more sustainable configuration of energy markets, regions, cities, communities and industries. The lecture days of the course cover the following range of six energy management topics related to the energy system:
  1. Energy challenges as key perspectives: systems, frames, and transitions (Aukes)
  2. The functioning of energy markets/Energy and security (Lee)
  3. Energy, the economy and environment/Energy management in companies (Aukes)
  4. National and regional energy policy (Aukes)
  5. Energy in North-South perspective/ Global energy governance/ Energy and justice (Clancy)
  6. Energy technologies and innovation (Coenen)
