After passing the course, the student can:     
  • Purposefully construe development methods for mechanical and mechatronic systems 
  • Plan and implement collaboration strategies in decentral development teams
  • Outline, establish and use components of collaboration platforms and tools
  • Purposefully Influence collaboration in decentral design teams
Inhoud
This course aims at decentral product development in a collaborative setting between the University of Twente and the Technical University Berlin.
During this course you will develop the ability to effectively collaborate using virtual methods by gaining knowledge and skills on collaborative technology, managing information exchange, effective and efficient storage of information, handling CAD co-development, managing and documenting different versions and variants and documenting design rationale.
Further learning goals are the development of project problem solving skills and the development of trust and conflict management in virtual teams. This will be done through the establishment of a work environment in which you work in multidisciplinary teams. Different fields of expertise are combined, resulting in teams with members that have different mind-sets, different point of views and working methods.
The project “Global Product Development” aims to build skills in virtual collaboration through practical experience. During the first part of the course, in the form of different lectures, you will gather information about the causes and effects of virtual collaboration, project management in virtual teams and methodologies to co-develop virtual products in a CAD system. Other aspects that will be addressed during further lectures are a short introduction/repetition of Product Lifecycle Management, Development of Mechatronic systems, NX and Teamcenter.
During the assignment, students work in groups of eight to twelve, ideally an even amount of students from each university on the development of a complex mechatronic product. During the assignment the key element is the integration and interplay between the mechanical and electronics system and of course the organizational aspects that go along with the development of such a product in a virtual teams.
