Aims
After completing the course, the student is able to:
  • Design, implement and evaluate a solution to a specific problem in the field of Natural Language Processing (taken from a running research project at the University of Twente).
  • Present, discuss and defend the ideas, progress and problems of the research project to an audience of peers.
  • Present the result of the research in the form of a project report.
Content
In this course, students participate actively in research done at the University of Twente. Students work in small project groups of around 2-3 students on a realistic case taken from an actual UT research project, or a shared task in the field of Natural Language Processing. They have to design, implement and evaluate a technical solution to a specific NLP problem. The course has no final exam: the grade is based on the quality of the work (solution design, implementation, evaluation and presentation) as determined through progress presentations, final demonstration and the report of the project, written as a conference-style paper.

Information on the projects that students can work on in 2023-2024 will be presented at the introductory meeting of the course and on Canvas.
