After finishing this course, the student can:
- Explain the meaning of and relationship between data, monitoring, coaching, behavior and health.
- Name and explain relevant activities for the development, implementation and evaluation of monitoring and coaching technologies, based on the CeHRes Roadmap.
- Collect, analyze and visualize quantitative monitoring data and qualitative interview data to analyze health behavior.
- Combine quantitative and qualitative data to identify possibilities for coaching of health behavior.
- Use scientific literature to analyze behavior and explain in what way behavior can be monitored via technology.
- Create a low fidelity prototype of a persuasive data-driven monitoring and coaching technology that contains persuasive elements from the Persuasive System Design model.
- Analyze an existing log data set to identify general patterns in the use of a monitoring and coaching technology.
- Combine log data and literature to draw conclusions on adherence and make recommendations to a client on the improvement of adherence to an eHealth technology.

Inhoud
Through the digitalization of society, a boundless amount of personal data becomes available, e.g. on a person’s physiological state, their location, or their subjective wellbeing. Technology has the potential to translate these data into meaningful information that can be used to improve health and wellbeing: data can be used to monitor behavior and to coach people in improving their unhealthy or undesired behavior. On top of that, data is of added value in the development, implementation and evaluation of technologies that can increase health, wellbeing or healthcare.
During this course we will focus on the use of data and technology for monitoring and coaching purposes in order to improve health and wellbeing on an individual level. You will learn about the meaning of and relationship between monitoring, coaching, health, data and technology development. You will also gain on-hand experience with these concepts by completing three different projects, based on ongoing research projects. The topics of these projects are:
- Collecting quantitative and qualitative data to learn more about a health problem and possibilities for improvement;
- Developing a prototype of a persuasive monitoring and coaching technology based on an analysis of behavior;
- Analyzing log data to assess and improve adherence to technology.
After finishing this course, you know why thorough development, implementation and evaluation of coaching and monitoring technology in healthcare are important. You will also have skills to use data during these processes. You can relate this to all five developmental phases of the CeHRes Roadmap. Gained knowledge and skills will be assessed through three duo assignments, which each account for a third of the final grade. |
