The goal of the course is to provide a basic understanding of energy conversion technologies comprising state-of-the-art advanced conversion technologies using fossil fuels and new emerging conversion technologies for sustainable energy.
After the course the student should be able to:
- understand working principle and difference between various energy systems
- analyze the performance of the present and new energy conversion technologies
- evaluate the application of the system in a given working environment
- develop a conceptual design of an energy conversion system

The course will give an introduction on advanced conventional power generation and cogeneration plants, as well as alternative energy technologies. The topics that are included are:
- Advanced power plants with high efficiencies and low environmental impact
- Supercritical and ultra-supercritical steam power generation technologies
- Steam turbines, gas turbines, organic Rankine and combined cycles
