Having followed this course, students are able to:
• Acquire knowledge and understanding about basic research management skills, communication skills and writing skills for young researchers
• Understand the role of science in universities and society as a whole,
• Understand and analyse how processes of science are organized,
• Reflect on and communicate about these processes of science and the broader role of researchers in society and their own possibilities to develop these basic research management skills, communication skills and writing skills.

Research Management & Academic Skills is a course which is coordinated by Prof. Barend van der Meulen and Dr. Anne Dijkstra and carried out with lecturers Molly Waite, Rebecca Veneri, dr.ir. H. Becht, and other guest lecturers. The course is flexibly planned and runs from the start of the Research Honours Programme in January until June. The course consists of various components which are specified in the Progression and Award requirements.
Various workshops will be hosted by invited lecturers which each aim at developing specific research management knowledge and academic skills for young researchers. Examples of workshops are Creative Thinking, Writing for Funding, Understanding Life of Research, Personal Effectiveness, Presentation Skills.
Based on a Self-Assessment using the TGS PhD profile, an individual learning contract is signed with each student which specifies own learning goals within the Research Honours programme.
