After following this course, students can:
  • Independently study a specific topic of Software Technology in depth
  • Find, analyse and appropriately refer to literature relevant to the research question
  • Present the results of the research in the form of a scientific paper in English
  • Give an oral presentation on the results of the research
  • Understand the wider context of Software Technology-related research
Content
In the Capita Selecta, students get to perform an individual scientific study on a selected topic in Software Technology. Each year, a theme will be determined and several topics that fall under this theme are provided. Each student will study this field, e.g., by surveying literature or by studying relevant tools. This study leads to a scientific paper (typically a survey, review or evaluation paper). Furthermore, an oral presentation of the results is given to the group of all participants of the course. In this course, students practice scientific writing and presentation skills. The course has some characteristics that the student should be aware of:
 
During the course, the performance of individual students and their groups will be followed closely for the purpose of increasing the performance of students, if possible.
The teaching method of this course adopts an interactive approach where the schedule of the lectures and project meetings are interchangeable so that the course is steered according to the performance of the students.
The course hours can be used interchangeably for lectures, presentations, project meetings, group meetings and/or for self-study; the schedule updates will be announced at least one week before the date.
The attendance is compulsory unless a permission is granted by the lecturer.
