This course aims at giving students insight into the important role polymer science and -engineering plays in the development of biomaterials for use in medicine. They will assess the relevant scientific- and patent literature, draw conclusions, and identify research and development work that remains to be done.

In Biomaterials Science and Technology the focus is on the development of innovative biologically active biomaterials and advanced processing technologies, and the evaluation of the interaction of these materials with cells and tissues.
Specific topics are defined in the fields of Biomedical Polymer Science and Advanced Biomaterials Engineering, Cell-Material Interactions and Tissue Engineering, and Biomedical Membranes and Artificial Organs.
